Virtual Sign Language Workshop: LGBTQIA+ Edition

Language is one of our most powerful tools for connection, visibility, and allyship. In this empowering and interactive workshop, your team will dive into the beautiful, expressive world of American Sign Language (ASL) with a special focus on LGBTQIA+ identity and history. You won't just learn how to sign: you'll discover the rich, intersectional culture of the Deaf queer community. 🏳️‍🌈✨

Led by an expert instructor, this session blends essential language mechanics with fascinating cultural insights. From the foundations of the manual alphabet to specific terminology for gender identity and modern pride, your team will build a meaningful vocabulary to foster true inclusivity both on and off the clock.

Participants will:

• Explore Deaf Queer History: Learn about the vibrant history of "Deafies Drag" and discover the vital advocacy work of organizations like the Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf. 👑
• Master the ASL Basics: Lay the groundwork by learning the visual fundamentals, including the absolute basics of the ABCs and numbers 1–10. 🔢
• Express the Spectrum: Walk step-by-step through specific ASL signs for modern identity, including Nonbinary, Pansexual, Genderfluid, Intersex, and Cisgender.
• Sign with Pride: Practice essential community vocabulary for allyship and action, including Parade, Coming Out, Advocate, Rights, and Ally. ✊
