What most people get wrong: They ask âDoes that make sense?â and get a polite âyesâ â even when the other person is unsure. Clarity isnât a vibe. You need a quick check that proves youâre aligned.
A better approach: confirm in a way thatâs easy and low-pressure.Â
Here are a few go-to moves:
- Use a replay, not a yes/no
- Try: âJust to confirm, hereâs what I heardâŚâ then restate in one sentence.
- Ask for a short paraphrase
- Try: âCould you repeat back the plan in your words, just so I know I explained it clearly?â
- Confirm the three things that usually break
- Owner: whoâs doing it
- Definition of done: what âgoodâ looks like
- Timing: when itâs due
- Write it down in one line
- End with a one-sentence recap in Slack/email: âRecap: youâll __ by __, and success looks like __.â
