In a lecture-style setting, learn about the history and origins of Black History Month, from pioneers and first celebrations to how we can continue to celebrate. Through a collection of slides, participants will discover the:
- History of African people before Transatlantic enslavement
- History of Dr. Carter G. Woodson and the origins of Negro History Week
- Significance of February and why it was chosen for the celebration
- First celebration of Black History Month by students at Kent State University
- Continued need for awareness and education about Black history
This class includes Q&A opportunities, giving participants the chance to ask more about Black History Month. Our instructor will also provide educational resources and short, interactive activities to test your knowledge!
